What situations appear in everyday life where it would be beneficial to have group leadership skills?
- work - leading projects and tasks
- family - steering family toward loving agreements
- social group - helping the group decide what to do
What have you observed about leaders you admire?
- passionate about their mission
- knowledgeable, at least about leadership
- take the time to connect meaningfully with each group member
- experienced or at least willing to learn quickly
- rolemodel valued behaviour
- compassion and caring for their followers
- open, honest and trustworthy - do not break promises, backstab, cheat or leave you defenseless
- got your back
- transparent with motives
Key factors:
- let go of the need to win and instead aim to facilitate the great ideas from others
- patience and attention are the most important factors behind loyalty
- your job is not to solve all problems but to lead others to solve them
- reflect and promote what others say, let them be the stars
- if you’re OK with it they will be more likely to be OK with it - move forward with conviction, even if you're unsure
- you don’t ask for leadership, you simply be the leader by directing the conversation
Your homework:
- try initiating or leading an event
