This is my first post on these forums and I'm pretty stoked to be somewhere that we can share ideas and experiences with people who are looking to challenge and experiment with life. I want to share my experience with restricting refined, added and free sugars from my diet and perhaps spark some conversation on the topic as I think it's life changing and there is a big movement already starting that will likely see a total shift in the food industry, similar to when 'fat free' and 'organic' happened.
A few experiences led to me deciding to nearly eliminate added sugars from my diet. I watched the documentary 'The Men Who Made Us Fat' some time ago, I can't quite recall when exactly. I watched another documentary film called 'Fed Up' some time in the first quarter of this year. I watched a talk on YouTube by Dr Robert Lustig (who was featured in both the documentaries) called 'Sugar: The Bitter Truth'. At around the same time I also read Dan's book.
My experience from drastically reducing sugary products (I no longer call them food) has been increased energy, improved mood, fat loss, improved sleep and mental clarity. The thing about those is that they have a snowball effect and all of them contribute to each other so they keep improving.
I still eat fruit because it has fibre (as explained much better by Dr Robert Lustig) and I must admit that I do indulge in a few ciders and beers on the odd weekend bender. The rest of the time I only drink water and unsweetened tea. I don't drink any form of juice, soft drink, energy drink or anything else really.
Anyone else got any experiences to share of cutting back on these products? I'm also interested to hear people's views on waiting for the food industry to do something about it or taking action yourself right now.
