What is insecurity?
- feeling vulnerable to danger due to being ashamed of perceived weaknesses
- based on misrepresentations of past experiences
- driven by a desire to receive external validation from other people
- has a foundation belief that you must be 'good' at something, so there is always an attachment to outcomes/results (e.g. getting approval from others) - lack of skill or experience is deemed more important than anything else
- scarcity mindset - "if I don't get [result] I will miss out on something"
- belief that you must be sure of your results to proceed
- shame about experiencing certain emotions in front of others e.g. anxiety
What are the different symptoms?
- neediness
- rebellion for the sake of rebelling
- showing off and impression management manipulation
- paranoid behaviour
- withdrawal and hiding
- clumsiness and rushing
- procrastination
- focus on external outcomes and results
- pretending
- bullying and over-compensating
- over-achieving
What does a confident person do differently to an insecure person?
- they behave like they have nothing to lose
- they appreciate the present moment and express gratitude for reality
- they are focused on the attempt and the process rather than the result
- they accept and welcome failure by looking for the success in every situation (i.e. every failure is at the very least a learning experience and a measure of courage), and they seek to fail in order to stretch their comfort/skill levels
- they measure themselves in a balanced rational way (e.g. tracking how well they live by their own values), and they compare themselves only to themselves, not others
- they practice optimism by imagining situations going well rather than worrying
- they purposefully and frequently expose themselves to uncomforatble situations
- they apply self-awareness observation (e.g. journalling)
- they break things down into Quantum Parts (e.g. break 'nervousness' into fast heart beat, tense shoulders and racing thoughts) to make them more manageable
