What is the difference between internal and external motivation?- Self-satisfaction vs pleasing others - Feels good to do it vs feels good to finish it - Process matters most vs success matters most - Aligned to values vs aligned to outcomes What is motivation made of?- The importance of anger as a motivational source. Without anger you lack power. You can call it frustration, energy, power. Whatever you need to call it. Start harnessing it instead of suppressing it into rage. - Guilt is the counter source of motivation. It is often about pleasing others. - Cognitive dissonance – aim to make yourself mad about not taking action by repeatedly facing your values and comparing them with your behaviour. Forget results, that's where guilt comes from. Focus on your actions and whether you're proud of them. Desire, Courage and Resources- Rate each from 1-100%. For those that fall below 80%, ask yourself: - How can I increase my desire by 10%? - How can I increase my courage by 10%? - How can I increase my resources by 10%? Measuring progress objectively- Journaling. Here is a journalling guide www.dropbox.com/s/vj9vw4yfh7al10a/Journaling%20guide.docx?dl=0- Measurement units should be objective (use science, not how you feel or what others seemed to think) Your homework and resources:- use the Desire, Courage and Resources exercise to revisit an area of your life that has fluctuation motivation, check pg31 of the workbook www.dropbox.com/s/6cuqihe9mqet64j/The%20Legendary%20Life%20Workbook.pdf?dl=0
